Don't let costume adverts spook you out

Happy Halloween! It’s that time of year again. Whether you tap into the Halloween spirit or not, it’s almost impossible to avoid the adverts for the sweets, the decorations and, of course, the costumes. It’s the one day where people of all ages can dress up in the scariest, funniest or often most ridiculous costumes they can get their hands on without fear of (too much) embarrassment.

However, this is not without disadvantage. While Halloween is meant to be a light-hearted and fun occasion, many young people can experience feelings of body consciousness. With recent accusations of some adverts ‘sexualising’ Halloween costumes for children, it is no wonder concerns over body image can arise.
